Postings about this festival " DONG ZHI " / Winter Solstice were seen lying everywhere in the blogsphere!! My family was no exception in throwing a celebration in receiving this happy day!! I remember some elderly folks mentioned that in China, this festival could be bigger than the 1st day of CNY !!!
Though, not all my sisters could gather for the celebration in my parents' home, i believe my parents were more than happy to just have 3 of their daughters back home with 2 sons in law & grandchildren!! As my 2 other married sisters are staying with their in laws (who so happened to be having d same celebration too at their home), PRIORITY of choice usually goes to the husband's side when it comes to selection on which sides of the family to go to during big celebration like this !!! How i just hate this unfair & favouritism practice......
Anyway, the dining table was full of dishes, thanks to the chef of our home (none oth than my mom of course).....very typical of the cantonese flavours, ......i.e.
steamed chicken (pak cham kai) with spring onion+coriander leafs+soya sauce
roasted duck
stir fried "nga ku" with "kan choi" & green peas wrap by "sang choi"
sweet & sour chillies prawns
but accompanied with RED WINES.....haha !!
(finally our mango wine from Darwin, Aust was well consumed....hehe)
And that's not enough.....we "ta pao" CRABs too........wahh, sooong ahh !!
But then, funnily how come there is no sight of the signature dish of 'DONG ZHI' leh????
But then, funnily how come there is no sight of the signature dish of 'DONG ZHI' leh????
i.e. "tong yuen"/glutinous rice balls soup......coz it does not worth a capture by my camera !!! Very unfortunately, my younger sister was WRONGLY entrusted with the task of making that important dish & it turned out to be so horrible.......the balls almost looked like "pan mee" & the soup was so tick like glue !!!! tsk tsk tsk......"memang tak guna punya"(simply useless) !!
Now i missed what i could have done .......
H A P P Y " D O N G Z H I " and hope you had a good one too!!

The dishes look very good Jacss, ah well next time you will have to prepare the main dish eh? Hope the wine went down well, though it might not go well with a spicy dish,
Next time we visit you you will prepare this ???
