AS " promised " the FOOD PORN...... hahaha

Will try to keep the words few so that u can drool on.......

They are foods from a combination of occasions, NOT all from our short 'balik kampung' trip.......ok !!!

Below was the 'authentic' TEO CHEW 'lou sui ngap muoy'/stewed duck porridge which my FIL & huby love to sumptuous together whenever we were back to AlorSetar......they probably enjoyed the 'companionship' more...!! Unfortunately, the daughter in law "dislike" porridge from young.... what's more having all these organ parts of the duck....yuck yuck yuck !!

For the past 7 years, the nasty DIL will usually hint to the huby NOT to go to this place for breakfast......so knowing me, huby dare not mention about going for porridge breakfast or if his dad suggested, he would divert the ideas.....tsk tsk tsk!! But DIL this time made an exception to give the nod to the huby to bring the parents to their favourite porridge b/fast. The reason being: the DIL was curious & want to know if the twins (the teochew's brood) also inherit the same taste bud.....ngek ngek ngek !!!

..... Teo Chew Lou Sui Ngap Muoy / Stew Duck Porridge .....
The verdict was : yes, the twins got the teo chew tastes too........ sigh :(
Having said that, i must agreed that my taste changed too ..... i don't find the food there that yucky anymore, i started to enjoy it a little.......hehehe

This time around in AS, i didn't really eat like a hungry ghost, reason being my throat was already at a weak condition when we arrived. But it was a must for huby to pack home his favourite nasi kandar whenever he's back to his hometown. The fact that it was also my die-to-eat food, i couldn't resist forcing down those crispy fried chicken with the sweet & spicy gravy served on the fragrant rice....the most drooling food in AS! Sadly, in less than an hour after eating that pack of rice, the phlegm started to build up in my throat so much so that MIL also noticed the change of my voice & shaked her head too......afterwhich she offered me a cup of chinese medicine drink which helped my throat to feel better !!
After that meal, i actually skipped food that was too spicy but still ate other foods like the below chilling ice-kacang....... the usual chinese cuisine dinner........ and the next day dim sum breakfast before we headed down south to Penang !!
..... Ice - Kacang .....

Finished dim sum breakfast in AS around 11am & headed straight to Penang. The initial lunch appointmt with SIL has to be called off as our stomachs were too full for another round of feast! So instead, we just catch up for a while at SIL house besides passing her some of the goodies from her mom (home grown jackfruit, mango, longan & kampung eggs)!!

About an hour later, we checked into our hotel at The Northerm Suites Penang where we also packed some local famous Penang delicacies for the late lunch........some of our must-haves:

..... Mochi .....

..... Sweet sauce 'chee cheong fun' .....

..... argh....my favourite assam laksa .....

..... Prawn mee .....

..... Char Kuey Teow .....

end of penang food

******************************************************
..... Pan Mee but we called it "min fun char kuo" at home .....

The above meal was served by mom during one of our dinner last week. The white flat cake was home-made by mom from wheat flour into dough before rolling them into flat pieces. Normal pork soup base with veggies, minced pork + balls and fried garlic. Unfortunately, the boys don't take them very well...... :(

********************************************************

Last Friday, we celebrated dad's 63 birthday with a family dinner at Sam Yau restaurant in PJ. It was another shouting, yelling, cursing & laughing session for my family....... bcoz that's how loud we talked.....

Nothing special about the other dishes except that the appetizer was exceptionally well presented & eye-cathy !!
Here is the appetizer for you to drool..........

I only managed to hold their hands & chopstick off the food for a mere 3 seconds just so that i could take a snapshot of this dish ..... and words already been thrown to me (aiyo....blog again ahh??), then all the hands could no longer resist to grab a piece of the lobster meat!!

*********************************************************

The whole of Saturday afternoon, i was working so madly in the kitchen for that night's pot luck lantern party at a girlfriend's new home. Walau eh....the house in Sunway SPK D'sara was 'si beh' nice lor.....my friend's unit was an end lot and together with the galland of $$ spent on the reno, interior & finishing, she was already a millionaire.......'si beh fu poh' !!

here is the spread of pot luck food on the table, any wild guess what's my menu ????

..... Jeng jeng jeng .....

(1) mee hoon goreng .....cantik hor :) !!

How can i not practise my sushi making??

(2) BIG BENTO consists of :

a) Futomaki-zushi (assorted vegetables maki), where i used zuchinni, crabstick, sausage, chicken floss & mayonaise inside the rice!

b) Inside-out sushi roll, the ingredients are similar to the above except that the outer layer of the rice was scattered with mix seeds & spices!

c) Inari sushi, where i stuffed inside the beancurd skin with rice & on top of that with chicken floss & salmon tuna!!

I had initially wanted to make more varieties of sushi but not just time doesn't allowed me, my mind also couldn't take the task too......as...... i was already way exhausted !!

Next is the kiddy bento! Only few pieces of bear sushi rice with chicken floss & sweet fried egg as fillings. In the centre was a pair of kiddy boy & girl !!

.... Cute hor ....

Finally, using the agar-agar powder huby imported back from Bangkok, here are my dessert offer for the party!!

The top few are red bean paste with santan jelly. If only they were a lil bit softer & sweeter, they would be lovely....need few more tries!! It also formed the bottom layer of the heart shaped jelly. The top layer was merely added some cooked barley seeds for crunchiness.

Next jelly tasted softer thus better & it was the kids' favourite RIBENA flavour where i also cut some prunes & sprinkle to the bottom.....indeed a good try!

Finally, SEAN, SCOT & their lil di-di fren, ZenLi wishes everyone an early

Happy Lantern & Mooncake festival !!

Have you got enuf & tired of the food?? Or if you got too hooked & drool..... for more, check out the next bento updates !!!

..... cheers .....

Hah I guessed right as to your dish!!! The fact you had it right at the front had nothing to do with it though (haha)
It all looks very good. Never been to the duck porrige place (but thanks for the tip about the ducks organs) but the iced kacang place your FIL has taken us there.
